Vanilla Custard Cream Squares – A Timeless Dessert Delight

Welcome to your new go-to showstopper! These Vanilla Custard Cream Squares combine layers of golden, flaky puff pastry with a smooth, velvety vanilla custard, all crowned with a dusting of powdered sugar. Whether you’re hosting a gathering or simply indulging at home, this classic dessert brings sophistication and comfort to every bite.

✨ Ingredients

For the Pastry
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed

For the Custard Filling
4 cups whole milk

1½ cups granulated sugar

1¼ cups all-purpose flour

8 large eggs, separated

3 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 tablespoons dark rum (optional)

2 cups heavy whipping cream, chilled

2 tablespoons powdered sugar (plus extra for topping)

‍ Step-by-Step Instructions

‍ Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Bake the Puff Pastry
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line two baking trays with parchment paper.

Prepare pastry: Lay out each sheet of puff pastry on the trays. Use a fork to prick holes all over—this prevents excessive puffing.

Bake for 15–20 minutes or until the pastry is golden and crisp. Let them cool completely before assembly.

Step 2: Cook the Custard
Warm the milk in a large saucepan over medium heat until it begins to steam. Avoid boiling.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar and flour.

Add yolks: Stir in the egg yolks until smooth and lump-free.

Temper the eggs by slowly adding hot milk to the mixture while whisking constantly.

Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until it thickens and bubbles. Simmer 1–2 minutes, then remove from heat.

Stir in vanilla and rum. Cover with plastic wrap (directly on the surface) and let it cool completely.

Step 3: Whip and Fold the Cream
In a clean bowl, beat the chilled heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.

Once the custard is fully cooled, gently fold the whipped cream into it, creating a light, fluffy custard filling.

Step 4: Assemble the Dessert
Place one sheet of the cooled pastry on a serving tray.

Spread the custard cream evenly over it.

Top with the second pastry sheet.

Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the custard to firm up.

Step 5: Slice and Serve
Dust the top with powdered sugar.

Cut into squares using a sharp knife.

Serve and enjoy the delicate layers of pastry and cream!

Tips & Notes
Prevent over-puffing: Don’t forget to prick the pastry thoroughly before baking.

Egg tempering: Add hot milk gradually to avoid scrambling the yolks.

Cool completely: Folding whipped cream into warm custard will cause it to melt—always let it chill first.

Fun Variations
Chocolate Cream Squares: Mix in ½ cup melted dark chocolate to the custard before folding in the whipped cream.

Lemon Dream: Add 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice + zest of 1 lemon to the custard for a citrusy flair.

Berry Layers: Layer fresh strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries between the custard and top pastry sheet.

Almond Bliss: Stir ½ teaspoon almond extract into the custard and sprinkle toasted almonds on top before serving.

Ingredients:

Ingredients required: - 1 cup of unsalted butter - 1 cup of granulated sugar - 1 cup of tightly packed light brown sugar - 1/4 teaspoon of salt - 1/4 cup of water - 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract - 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips - 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Preparations:

Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, and set it aside. Place the water, salt, white sugar, brown sugar, and butter in a sturdy pot. Use a candy thermometer set to 300°F, known as the hard crack stage. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly. Add the vanilla extract right after removing the pan from the heat. Mix the hot toffee mixture well with a heat-resistant spatula until it spreads evenly on the baking sheet. Cinco punto seis. After heating the toffee, put in the chocolate chips and allow them to melt for one minute. Spread the melted chocolate evenly on top of the toffee. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top of the melted chocolate if desired. After covering the toffee with chocolate, allow it to rest for a minimum of two hours to harden. After breaking it, enjoy the pieces! Tips and Suggestions: You can leave out the nuts by not adding walnuts or pecans. Another option is to sprinkle a bit of flaky sea salt to give it a salty toffee taste. Use white chocolate or a different type of flavored chocolate (dark, milk, etc.) instead of the semisweet chips. You can also sprinkle a bit of espresso powder for a mocha taste if you want to try something different. To make it more festive, you can sprinkle crushed peppermint on top. Enjoy!

Have fun.

Cheesy Chicken Fritters

by

Cheesy Chicken Fritters are a savory, crispy treat that’s perfect for any occasion. Made with tender shredded chicken, melted cheddar cheese, and a hint of seasoning, these fritters are golden brown on the outside and deliciously cheesy on the inside. Whether you’re looking for a fun appetizer, a snack, or a meal, these fritters are sure to satisfy your cravings with every bite!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill or parsley, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (you can also use almond flour for a low-carb option)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil or vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Begin by cutting the chicken into small pieces. Then, using a food processor, pulse the chicken until it’s finely chopped (not pureed, you want some texture).
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped chicken, shredded cheese, eggs, green onions, dill or parsley, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the Fritters: Using your hands, take a portion of the mixture and shape it into a patty. Depending on your preference, these can be small bite-sized fritters or larger patty-sized ones.
  4. Fry the Fritters: In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the fritters into the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they’re golden brown and cooked through.

  1. Drain and Serve: Once cooked, transfer the fritters to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Continue this process until all the fritters are cooked.
  2. Serving: Serve the cheesy chicken fritters hot with your favorite dipping sauce, like a garlic aioli, tzatziki, or ranch dressing.

Tips:

  • For an extra touch of flavor, consider adding some grated Parmesan to the mix.
  • You can also incorporate finely chopped vegetables such as bell peppers or zucchini for added nutrition and flavor.

Enjoy your meal!
